Seven Israelis have been killed after a gunman opened fire outside a synagogue in East Jerusalem on Jan. 27. According to Israeli police, the gunman waited until Shabbat prayers ended at a synagogue in Neve Yaakov neighbourhood. An Israeli state broadcaster identified the gunman as a 21-year old Palestinian man who didn’t have a security record. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to respond to attacks and said that “measures has been decided”. Palestinian militant groups praised the attack, but stopped short of claiming responsibility for the shooting. Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have killed 10 Palestinians during a raid in the north of the occupied West Bank on Jan. 26. US President Joe Biden termed the killings in Jerusalem an “attack against the civilised world”. Israel’s new govt was sworn into office in late December, with Benjamin Netanyahu becoming the PM again. Netanyahu's new govt has raised concerns among the Palestinians and observers of Israeli politics.
